Am J Gastroenterol 2000 Jul;95(7):1714-6

  • 39 patients – grade 2 or 3 haemorrhoids
  • Videoendoscopy anoscopy performed to give better and enlarged view of haemorrhoids (including photographic record if required)
  • Banding performed using KilRoid® – 1, 2 or 3 haemorrhoids

Results

34/39 (87%) had no recurrence of bleeding (3/34 – rebanded successfully, 1/34 continued with persistent bleeding and 1/34 persistent bleeding not associated with haemorrhoids),

The authors conclude that using videoendoscopic anoscopy and Kilroid® is an effective method that offers considerable cost advantages compared to using endoscopic band ligation.

This is the largest study where a disposable instrument is compared with a reusable instrument.
